COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Dealing with people who are challenged by mental illness has been an ongoing issue in law enforcement.  This course is designed to provide an overview of different types of severe mental illness and how to manage individuals who are struggling. Practical application and use of verbal and non verbal de-escalation techniques will be demonstrated.

2. Overview of common mental illness that are seen in law enforcement work

3.  Practical assessment plan

4. Strategies and tactics in dealing with mental illness in the field

5. Basics of crisis and hostage negotiations for first responders
